Chilwell dreams of the World Cup: Revenge with England after his exile?

Ben Chilwell, the left-back, is hopeful of returning to the England squad for the World Cup. His last appearance with the English national team was in 2024, totaling 21 matches. Now, Chilwell envisions the possibility of being called up for the tournament in North America next summer. Chilwell, who won the Champions League with Chelsea under the management of Thomas Tuchel in 2021, has faced injury problems that have affected his career. A cruciate ligament injury at the end of 2021 and a hamstring injury kept him out of the 2022 World Cup.

After his time at Chelsea, Chilwell was relegated and trained with a group of players who were set aside. However, his hope of returning to the national team could resurface after his loan to Strasbourg in France.

“It would be a great story if I went to the World Cup after being in the group of players sidelined by Chelsea and everyone had written me off 12 months before,” Chilwell declared.

Chilwell added: “Probably 99% of people are saying ‘No, he’s not going, it’s impossible to go to the World Cup’. We’ve had conversations since Tuchel got the job in England. I’ll try to say it right, it’s been said that he’s not out of the equation.” Chilwell has been injury-free for two seasons and is excelling under the management of Liam Rosenior at Strasbourg.
