Chelsea Humiliates Barcelona in the Champions League
The match on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea defeated Barcelona 3-0, marked the end of a 53-match consecutive scoring streak for the Catalan team.
The team led by Hansi Flick had managed to score in every match since their 1-0 defeat against Leganés on December 15, 2024.
During the last year, Barcelona had stood out for its offensive brilliance, although it often showed defensive weaknesses. This was evidenced in the Champions League semi-final of last season, where it fell to Inter with an aggregate score of 7-6.In Tuesday’s match against Chelsea, Barcelona suffered defensively on several occasions, relying on an offside trap that worked at times, but it was not enough to contain the constant pressure from Enzo Maresca’s team.
Ferran Torres had a clear opportunity to score at the beginning, but failed to send the ball wide in a one-on-one with Robert Sánchez. Chelsea dominated the match from the start. Ronald Araújo was sent off shortly before halftime, with Chelsea already winning 1-0 thanks to an own goal by Joules Koundé. In the second half, Estêvão and Liam Delap extended the lead.
The Blues had three goals disallowed during the match, one for a handball by Wesley Fofana and two for offside.
The Barcelona generated five shots in total, of which only two were on target. Considering that they are the top scorers in LaLiga with 36 goals in 13 games and have already scored 12 times in the Champions League this season, their performance against Chelsea was surprising.
The Barça is in second place in LaLiga and in a disappointing 15th place in the Champions League standings, while Chelsea rose to fifth place in the Champions League, shortly after climbing to second place in the Premier League.
