Chelsea is close to finalizing the signing of Alejandro Garnacho, after intensifying talks with Manchester United. Negotiations revolve around a transfer of 40 million pounds sterling (54 million dollars) for the Argentinian forward, according to sources close to the situation. Garnacho, who was informed that he could leave United this summer, has not participated in the team since the end of last season. He was excluded from the pre-season tour in the United States to train with other teammates who are also not in the team’s plans. Sources: Mainoo’s future at United hangs in the balance. While Rashford completed a one-season loan to Barcelona last month, United has failed to get rid of other players who are not in their plans. Garnacho rejected an offer from Bayern Munich earlier this month, making it clear that he only wanted to leave Old Trafford to join Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge club had shown interest in signing Garnacho during the January transfer window, but the deal did not materialize.

Chelsea were interested in signing the 21-year-old player earlier this summer, but sources indicated that Enzo Maresca’s team was only willing to pay £30 million (40 million dollars) for Garnacho, while United valued the player at £50 million (67 million dollars). Chelsea’s interest had recently stalled due to their attempts to push forward with departures to comply with a UEFA sanction, which has forced the club to balance its finances. This involves the sale of several players from the squad that won the Conference League last season, including Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. Conversations between United and Chelsea have resumed for a deal between 35 and 40 million pounds sterling. Although an agreement has not yet been reached, negotiations are progressing and the transfer could be finalized before the transfer market deadline, next Monday at 7 p.m. BST.
