Santi Cazorla, at the age of 40, has confirmed that his career in professional football continues. The Spanish midfielder has signed a contract extension with Real Oviedo, ensuring his presence in LaLiga next season.

The club’s official announcement arrived on Saturday, confirming that Cazorla, whose previous contract expired this summer, has agreed to a new one-year deal. This means that the veteran player will be part of the Oviedo team in their return to the top category of Spanish football, after 24 years.

Cazorla was a fundamental piece in the Oviedo team that achieved promotion, scoring a crucial goal in the playoff against Mirandés last month. The midfielder, with a past in teams like Arsenal and Villarreal, last played in LaLiga in 2020. After a stint at Al Sadd of Qatar, Cazorla returned to Oviedo in 2023. In his outstanding career, Cazorla has represented Spain 81 times, being part of the team that won the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.
