The goalkeeper for the United States women’s national team, Casey Murphy, has signed an agreement with Boston Legacy FC, an NWSL expansion team for 2026. The news has been confirmed by various sources.
Murphy, who was in the final stage of her contract with the North Carolina Courage, was a free agent at the end of the current season. North Carolina tried to retain the goalkeeper, offering her a contract extension, but ultimately no agreement was reached.
With 20 international matches with the USWNT, Murphy was the substitute goalkeeper for Alyssa Naeher in the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games, where the American team won the gold medal.
Murphy is expected to become the starting goalkeeper for the expansion team in Boston, with the goal of regaining her place in the US national team for the 2027 World Cup.

Murphy excelled at North Carolina, making 96 saves and conceding 1.00 goals per game in 2021, which boosted her career in the USWNT.
He debuted with the United States national team in November 2021. In the qualification for the 2022 World Cup and Olympic Games, she was a starter in two group stage matches and in the semi-final, competing for the starting position with Naeher.
He has kept a clean sheet on 15 occasions in his 20 international matches. His last appearance with the USWNT was in October 2024. The American coach, Emma Hayes, has been trying out several goalkeepers in search of a new starter.
Before joining Courage, Murphy played one season at Seattle Reign FC. She began her professional career in France, playing for Montpellier from 2017 to 2019.
In the 18 games this season, Murphy has conceded 28 goals. The Courage is in the midst of a fight for the NWSL playoffs. They are currently in ninth position, one point behind Racing Louisville FC, the team they face this Saturday for the last playoff spot.
