Callum Wilson Bolsters West Ham United Attack

West Ham United has secured the signing of Callum Wilson, who joins the team on a one-year contract. The striker was a free agent after his contract with Newcastle United ended last month. Wilson, 33, left Newcastle after failing to reach an agreement to extend his contract. During his five seasons with the “Magpies”, the striker scored 49 goals in 130 matches in all competitions. Injuries and the presence of Alexander Isak as the starting striker at Newcastle limited Wilson’s playing time in recent seasons, starting only twice during the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

  • Newcastle makes an offer for Sesko while Isak’s future is “complex”
  • Manchester United can sign a striker without the need for departures
Despite this, Wilson, who scored two goals in nine matches with the England national team between 2018 and 2023, will continue his career in the top tier of English football by joining the “Hammers” managed by Graham Potter for the upcoming season. Wilson, who played six seasons at Bournemouth before arriving at Newcastle in September 2020 for a fee close to £20 million, expressed his enthusiasm: “I am excited to join a football club as big as West Ham.”

A club that shares a similar passion to mine, hard work, dedication and I also strive for success, so I am glad to be a part of it. I am looking forward to the challenge. There is a lot of talent within the team. The coach has arrived, he is making everyone a team, all working in the same direction to achieve the goal, which is to finish as high as possible in the league.

Wilson, who was also linked with Leeds United, joins Jean-Clair Todibo, Daniel Cummings, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters in arriving at the London Stadium this summer.

We are delighted to welcome Callum to West Ham United. He is a proven and experienced Premier League striker, with a great work ethic and a fantastic goalscoring record. He also has an excellent character and personality, which is a very important factor and something we put a lot of emphasis on when signing players. We have built a very good spirit and atmosphere around the team, and Callum will only strengthen and improve it. He will be a good influence, especially on our young attacking players.
