Sergio Busquets Announces Retirement at the End of the 2025 Season

Inter Miami CF midfielder Sergio Busquets has announced his retirement from professional soccer at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. The news was revealed by the player himself through a video posted on his Instagram account, where he shared details about his nearly two-decade career in football, including his experiences at Barcelona, Miami, and the Spanish national team.

I feel it’s time to say goodbye to my career as a professional footballer. It’s been almost 20 years enjoying this incredible story that I always dreamed of. Football has given me unique experiences in wonderful places, with the best travel companions.

In his message, Busquets expressed his gratitude to FC Barcelona, the club of his life, where he fulfilled his childhood dreams and celebrated numerous successes at Camp Nou. He also extended his gratitude to the Spanish national team, for the honor of representing it and enjoying unforgettable achievements. He also thanked Inter Miami for giving him the opportunity to be part of a growing club, where he sought to have a new experience and contribute his talent.

Busquets, recognized for his successful career, retires after accumulating more than 700 appearances with FC Barcelona, where he won multiple La Liga, Champions League, and Copa del Rey titles. In addition, he was part of the historic Spanish national team that achieved the treble, winning the 2008 European Championship, the 2010 World Cup, and the 2012 European Championship. In 2023, after a successful career in Barcelona, Busquets joined Inter Miami, where he shared a team with Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. His arrival at Inter Miami marked a milestone, playing a crucial role in winning the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 Supporters’ Shield, and setting a single-season league points record. In his farewell, Busquets thanked his teammates, the staff, and all those with whom he shared unforgettable moments. He highlighted the affection and respect of fans from all over the world, and expressed his satisfaction for having given his best. His last words were:

These will be my last months on the field. I retire very happy, proud, fulfilled and above all grateful. Thank you very much, see you soon… Every ending is a new beginning.
