A 72-year-old Brighton fan died after feeling unwell during the second half of the Premier League match against Fulham, the club confirmed. The incident occurred in the upper tier of the East Stand at the Amex Stadium. The medical services present at the scene performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and used a defibrillator, but the man died after the conclusion of the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Barber added that the club will ensure to provide support to all those affected by the situation. The Brighton security team, with the support of Sussex Police and the Premier League, decided not to stop the match because the majority of the fans and the players of both teams were unaware of the incident. It was considered that stopping the game would have drawn even more attention to the scene and could have affected resuscitation attempts. In addition, it could have generated complications in case the man responded and needed to be quickly transported to the hospital. This was an incredibly sad end to the match this afternoon, and our deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of the gentleman who lost his life.
