Jude Bellingham described the goal he scored in Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday as a “great feeling”, thus marking his first goal of the season. Bellingham took advantage of a rebound after a shot by Vinícius Júnior that hit the post, securing the three points for Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu and adding three consecutive victories in the Champions League this season. The English midfielder hadn’t scored since undergoing shoulder surgery in July, and has now regained his best form ahead of Sunday’s Clásico against Barcelona in LaLiga.

It’s a great feeling, it’s been a long time since I scored, a long time out and dreaming of that moment, back in the Champions League and against a great team. Scoring the winning goal, here at home, is incredible. I felt comfortable, very good. Playing well was important, and scoring the winning goal helps the team a lot.

Bellingham had an outstanding debut season at the Bernabéu, scoring 19 goals in LaLiga. The player reflected on the previous season, where Madrid did not achieve any major titles.

I don’t think last year was a disaster. There were 15 goals, 14 assists, but I know the general feeling was that it was worse. But I was part of that, of how we didn’t play so well last year. There were still good moments, but not at the level I want to play at, not at the level of the first year. Now I’ve had shoulder surgery, a new coach, he has that way, how we want to play. You have to learn from it.

Coach Xabi Alonso praised Bellingham’s performance, highlighting his complete game and versatility.

Regardless of the goal, Jude had a very complete game. It was difficult, there wasn’t much space, Juve retreated. I liked the game he played in Getafe and I really liked his game today, and he also scored a goal. He was competitive, won a lot of balls, got into positions in the area. He is a player who can cover ground, is versatile, has different qualities and knows how to get into the area, that’s why he is one of the most complete players in the world.
