Atlético Madrid close to signing Ruggeri, after ruling out Robertson
Atlético de Madrid is close to closing the incorporation of Matteo Ruggeri, left-back of Atalanta, according to sources close to the club. Negotiations between Atlético and Atalanta have advanced considerably, and the agreement is expected to be finalized in the coming days. Ruggeri, 22 years old, has played 99 matches in Serie A with Atalanta, providing nine assists from the left-back position. In addition, he has represented the Italian under-21 national team on 16 occasions. Atlético Madrid also considered Andy Robertson from Liverpool and Lucas Digne from Aston Villa, but ultimately chose Ruggeri. The Colchonero club, led by Diego Simeone, seeks to reinforce its squad to compete for the LaLiga title in the next season. In addition to Ruggeri, Atletico has reached an agreement to sign Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis and is in talks with Villarreal for midfielder Álex Baena.
