Atlético de Madrid seeks to reinforce its defense with Renato Veiga

Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea will meet in the coming hours to try to finalize the signing of Renato Veiga, a player who could reinforce the defense of the colchonero team. This is confirmed by sources close to Alofoke Deportes. The team led by Diego Simeone has made the incorporation of a central defender a priority, after the arrival of Marc Pubill to strengthen the right-back position. Negotiations between both clubs are ongoing, although there is a difference in the valuation of the player. Chelsea is asking for between 40 and 45 million pounds sterling (54-60 million dollars) to close the transfer of the Portuguese defender. Despite the economic distance, the good relationship between both institutions generates optimism regarding the possibilities of reaching an agreement.

Veiga is considered a market opportunity for Atlético de Madrid. The sports management highlights his youth, with only 21 years old, and his versatility to perform as a left-back, defensive midfielder and central defender, his natural position.

Chelsea signed Veiga for 14 million euros, but as he didn’t fit into Enzo Maresca’s plans, he was loaned to Juventus in January. Veiga represents a possible further addition in the renovation that is taking place at the Metropolitano this summer. Atlético has already secured the arrival of Matteo Ruggeri, Álex Baena, Thiago Almada and Johnny Cardoso, with Pubill being the last to join. In the agreement for Pubill, Atlético will pay Almería a fixed amount of 16 million euros, plus 4 million in variables, surpassing the interest of Barcelona and AC Milan, who were also interested in the Spanish U-21 international.
  • American midfielder Johnny Cardoso joins Atletico Madrid.
  • Atletico Madrid reaches an agreement to sign Argentine star Thiago Almada.
  • Miami and Atletico Madrid in talks for Rodrigo De Paul.
Regarding departures, it has been confirmed that Atlético de Madrid and Inter Miami have reached an agreement for the transfer of Rodrigo de Paul to the MLS. Atlético has agreed to a £15 million transfer for the Argentinian midfielder, who will sign a four-year contract with the team co-owned by David Beckham. De Paul will fulfill his wish to share a locker room with Lionel Messi, while Atlético’s next moves in the transfer market will depend on possible additional departures. Samuel Lino could be one of the players who could leave the club. Sources indicate that there are significant offers for the player, and although he is important for Simeone, Atlético could consider his departure if an attractive offer arrives.
