Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his full confidence in striker Viktor Gyökeres, highlighting that his potential “is very, very far” from what he has shown so far. Gyökeres, who arrived at Arsenal this summer from Sporting CP for a sum of 73 million euros, has managed to score three goals in his first six Premier League matches. In the recent and exciting 2-1 triumph against Newcastle United, Gyökeres was close to getting a penalty, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review. Despite not scoring in that match, the player had an outstanding performance.

I loved how he took it. There wasn’t a single minute where he showed frustration. I told him: ‘You’ll have some decisions in your favor, others not. Get up, you’ll have two or three players around you at many moments. When the ball is in the air, many things will happen’.

Arteta praised Gyökeres’ reaction to adversity and his impact on the game, regretting that he did not manage to score in that match.

Gyökeres is the only center forward available for Arsenal at the moment, due to injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz. Arteta highlighted that the player is taking on this responsibility naturally and organically. Arteta added that Gyökeres is a very confident player, with an incredible work ethic and who demands a lot of himself every day, which is a pleasure to work with.
