Arsenal Secures Eberechi Eze, Frustrating Tottenham

Arsenal has finalized the acquisition of Eberechi Eze, star midfielder from Crystal Palace, snatching the signing from Tottenham, as announced by the club on Saturday. The Premier League title contenders confirmed the operation after beating Spurs, who seemed to be the only ones interested in the player. The 27-year-old international Englishman joins the team for a sum that could reach 67.5 million pounds sterling (91 million dollars), according to sources close to the club. This incorporation marks the seventh signing of the summer for coach Mikel Arteta. On Wednesday, Tottenham seemed to be on the verge of closing the deal after reaching an agreement with Palace and with Eze himself. However, Arsenal quickly intervened, getting ahead of their North London rivals.

Eze, 27, was willing to join the Spurs, but the midfielder is a lifelong Arsenal fan and, apparently, was open to joining the club when it showed its initial interest. The Spurs will now look for other targets, which represents another disappointment in the market for Thomas Frank’s team, after missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White, who was close to joining the club before signing a new contract with Nottingham Forest.
