La larga búsqueda del Arsenal por un “9” parece haber llegado a su fin con la llegada de Viktor Gyökeres procedente del Sporting CP.
The international Swede arrives with a great reputation and was also the subject of interest from Manchester United and teams in the Saudi Pro League this summer. Gyökeres has scored 68 league goals in just 66 appearances in Portugal, with 39 goals last season alone, after arriving from Coventry City of the Championship in 2023. He also had spells in English football at Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 27-year-old striker adds more firepower to an Arsenal side that was affected by injuries in the second half of last season. Kai Havertz, who was one of the absentees, was the only recognized senior striker that Mikel Arteta took on the pre-season tour. The Arsenal manager is eager for Gyökeres to join the pre-season tour, with Arsenal playing against Newcastle in Singapore on Sunday and then flying to Hong Kong on Tuesday, before Thursday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal has finished in second position in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons.
