Arsenal Secures Viktor Gyökeres: Full Agreement with Sporting CP
Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Sporting CP to sign striker Viktor Gyökeres, according to sources close to the club.
This agreement ends a long negotiation and Gyökeres is expected to undergo medical examinations on Saturday.
The London club agreed on a sum close to 73 million euros for the Swedish international, who has scored 68 league goals in just 66 matches in Portugal.
The negotiations focused on add-ons, but an agreement was finally reached this week. Sporting was willing to accept an initial fee of approximately 63 million euros with an additional 10 million in add-ons.
Once the final agreement with Sporting was reached, the transfer was finalized quickly, as Gyökeres had already agreed on personal terms and a five-year contract with Arsenal.
Gyökeres will be the next striker to wear the number 14 shirt, famous for club legend Thierry Henry, and could complete his signing in time to join Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Asia.
Arsenal were looking for a new striker to compete with Kai Havertz and had identified Gyökeres as their main target.
The North London team will face Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in Asia before two additional pre-season matches in the UK, prior to their Premier League debut against Manchester United on August 17th.
