Young footballer Max Dowman, at just 15 years old, has reached an agreement to sign a scholarship contract with Arsenal, a Premier League club. This agreement lays the groundwork for a professional contract that will be offered to him when he turns 17.
Dowman is considered one of the most promising talents to emerge from the club’s youth academy in recent years. His debut with the first team took place on August 23, in a match against Leeds United, where Arsenal won with a score of 5-0. At that time, Dowman was 15 years and 235 days old.
The scholarship agreement ties him to Arsenal for two years from his 16th birthday, December 31st. Subsequently, he may be offered a professional contract that will come into effect when he turns 17.
The young footballer has also excelled in England’s youth categories. In his debut against Leeds, Dowman won a penalty, which was converted by Viktor Gyökeres. This made him the second youngest player in Premier League history to debut.
In addition, Dowman is the youngest goalscorer in the history of Arsenal Under-21 in the Premier League 2, after scoring in his first start in the competition last month.
The midfielder, at 15 years and 263 days old, broke a record previously held by Reiss Nelson, who set the mark in 2016.
Dowman and Nwaneri join Bukayo Saka and Myles Lewis-Skelly as academy prospects who have made the jump to Mikel Arteta’s first team in recent years.
