Amorim: “Manchester United is not ready to fight for the top spots”

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has expressed his concern after the 1-0 defeat against Everton, stating that his team is far from being able to compete for the top spots in the Premier League. United, who had the opportunity to move up to Champions League positions with a home win, couldn’t overcome an Everton side that played with ten men from the 13th minute after Idrissa Gueye was sent off.

“We are not even close to the point where we should be to fight for the best positions in the league,” declared Amorim.

Amorim admitted that the team “deserved to lose” and that, despite a recent positive run of results, he fears a repeat of last season’s situation, when a series of bad results relegated United to 15th place. The coach was disappointed with the attitude of his players, even envying the grit shown by Everton, even after Gueye’s expulsion. Amorim urged his team to show the same attitude in training, seeking improvement for the next match.

That was my feeling when watching the match,” explained Amorim. After the defeat, United is in tenth position in the Premier League and their next match will be against Crystal Palace on November 30.
