Ruben Amorim Receives Support Despite Derby Defeat
Manchester United, despite the recent derby defeat against Manchester City, has decided to maintain its confidence in Ruben Amorim, according to sources close to the club.
Pressure on Amorim has increased significantly following the result at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday. The Portuguese coach has managed only eight wins in 31 Premier League matches since taking over in November.
The 3-0 defeat to City also meant United’s worst start to a season in 33 years.
However, sources indicate that Amorim has the support of the club’s board, and is expected to remain in charge of the team for the match against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday.
After facing Chelsea, United will face Brentford and Sunderland before the October international break. A specific timeframe for the duration of United’s backing has not been established.
Although the need to improve results is recognized, the directive considers that there has been progress since last season.
Before the weekend’s matches, Amorim’s team led the Premier League in several statistics, including xG, total shots, and touches in the rival area.
United also had more possession than City at the Etihad on Sunday and a similar number of shots.
This has led some club officials to feel that the team has been on the wrong side of fine margins in several matches at the start of the season.
United is in fourteenth position in the table, having added four points in their first four games.
