Amorim Promises Improvements at Manchester United, But Asks for Patience

Manchester United’s coach, Rúben Amorim, has assured fans that the team will show significant improvement this season, although he warned that not all desired changes could be implemented in a single summer. The United will begin their campaign facing Arsenal at Old Trafford this Sunday. Amorim stated that the team has already surpassed last season’s level, where they finished in 15th position. However, the Portuguese coach has tried to moderate expectations, insisting that United is still in the process of development.

“We can’t change everything in four weeks, but we are better,” Amorim declared at a press conference on Friday.

“I know we are training harder, so we are better equipped to face the demands of the game. I have much more confidence, that’s clear. Step by step, we are going to be a better team.”

One reason for optimism is the new attacking line, which includes Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko. Sesko, signed for 73 million pounds (99 million dollars) from RB Leipzig, arrived in Manchester last week. Amorim did not rule out the possibility that the 22-year-old player will start against Arsenal. “We didn’t have much time, but it’s ready,” commented Amorim. “He’s physically ready. That’s an important component in our league. He’s ready to play. We’ll see if he’s going to be a starter. “He has great potential in everything he does. He can play different types of football. He’s going to feel that the Premier League is really aggressive. “He’s going to learn, but he has great potential. I see Ben [Sesko] being a Manchester United striker for many years, that’s why we paid so much money to have a striker who will make history in our club.”

Amorim will be able to focus on the Premier League and domestic cup competitions this season, as United failed to qualify for Europe. It’s the first time in 11 years that the club will not participate in a European competition, after missing the 2014-15 edition. Amorim indicated that the goal this year is to return to Europe quickly, which will likely involve finishing in the top six or seven. “We want to return to Europe, but it’s difficult as Manchester United coach to say something like that,” Amorim stated. “We are going to fight for it. We are going to improve.”
