Amorim backs Bayindir after error in Manchester United defeat
Amidst the uncertainty of the transfer market, Rúben Amorim has expressed his confidence in the current squad of goalkeepers at Manchester United, despite Altay Bayindir’s error that cost the match against Arsenal at the start of the Premier League season. Bayindir was Amorim’s choice over Andre Onana for the match at Old Trafford, which ended in a 1-0 defeat. Onana, who recovered from a hamstring injury, was not in the starting lineup. Bayindir’s error, which allowed Riccardo Calafiori to score after a corner from Declan Rice, raised questions about the need to reinforce the goalkeeping position.Amorim defended Bayindir in the post-match press conference, arguing that he doesn’t need a new goalkeeper. He explained that the error was the result of an action in which the goalkeeper was pushed. In the pre-match press conference, Amorim confirmed that Onana was fit to play against Arsenal, despite having only had three training sessions with the team. The decision not to include Onana in the starting eleven was surprising, but Amorim clarified that it was not an “exclusion”. Despite the adverse result, Manchester United showed a good performance for much of the match, with clear scoring opportunities. Amorim highlighted the pride in the team’s work and the conviction to be able to win any match in the Premier League.I am happy with the three goalkeepers. He [Bayindir] chooses to go for the ball, but he is pushed. That is my feeling when seeing the play.
