This move to Serie A ends two frustrating years for the player, following his arrival at Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £52 million ($70 million). Injuries affected his first season, and then he struggled to break into the team under Enzo Maresca.
Nkunku has not been called up for Chelsea’s first two Premier League matches, as Maresca has made it clear that he is not part of his plans.Christopher Nkunku ha perdido protagonismo en el Chelsea.Initially signed to solve the lack of a proven goalscorer, Nkunku suffered a serious knee injury during a pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund, shortly after joining the club. In his first season, he only played 11 matches in the Premier League.
Last season, under Maresca’s management, he had few opportunities to start in the league, and most of his appearances were in cup competitions and in the club’s successful Conference League campaign.
Once the handover is complete, Chelsea will have more room to finalize other deals before the summer transfer window closes.
