A’ja Wilson, Among the Finalists for the WNBA MVP

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson has been named as one of the five finalists for the WNBA MVP award, putting her in a prime position to make league history. Wilson could become the first player to win the award four times. The other players competing for the coveted prize are:
  • Napheesa Collier, forward of the Minnesota Lynx.
  • Allisha Gray, guard of the Atlanta Dream.
  • Kelsey Mitchell, guard of the Indiana Fever.
  • Alyssa Thomas, forward of the Phoenix Mercury.
The award, which is voted on by a panel of media outlets, will be announced on Sunday. In the past season, Wilson tied Cynthia Cooper of the 1997 Houston Comets as the only players to be unanimously selected MVP. This placed her alongside Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson as the only three-time winners. Wilson already won the award in 2020 and 2022. The other four finalists have not won the MVP award. Wilson led the WNBA with an average of 23.4 points and 2.3 blocks per game for the Aces, who finished second in the standings. Collier was the most outstanding player on the league’s best team, averaging 22.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
