Rees-Zammit: Rugby star reveals frustration in NFL stint
The Welsh rugby player, Louis Rees-Zammit, has shared his feelings about his time in the NFL, revealing that he felt his talent wasn’t being fully utilized. Recently, Rees-Zammit announced his return to rugby, after having participated with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars, after joining the NFL International Program last year. Now, he is preparing to play in the Premiership Rugby with the Bristol Bears this season.

I felt like I was wasting my talent there, to be honest.

Rees-Zammit explained that, despite giving his best, the difficulty of entering the NFL without having gone through the college system limited his opportunities.

It makes sense from a coach’s perspective, as those players have been playing that sport for a long time and it’s difficult to coach someone in a sport they’ve never played before.

The 24-year-old player is confident that his rugby skills have not deteriorated and will focus on his physical condition before the start of the season next month.

Skill isn’t really the issue, it’s about being match fit.

Rees-Zammit also highlighted the differences in physical conditioning between both sports, noting that rugby requires more endurance, while the NFL focuses more on speed and repeated sprints.
