Irish captain Caelan Doris will miss up to six months of action after undergoing shoulder surgery, his club, Leinster, announced on Monday.
The injury occurred during the European Rugby Champions Cup semi-final that Leinster played against Northampton Saints earlier this month.
Doris, who was competing for the captaincy of the British & Irish Lions with Maro Itoje, was excluded from Andy Farrell’s 38-player squad that will travel to Australia.
Caelan Doris underwent a procedure last Friday due to a shoulder injury, which will keep him out of action for between four and six months.

Doris will miss Ireland’s test matches against Georgia and Portugal in July and is a doubt for the November matches against New Zealand, Japan, Australia and South Africa.
