United States Defines Coaching Staff for Ice Hockey at the 2026 Olympic Games

The United States men’s ice hockey team has completed its coaching staff for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The official announcement, made on Wednesday, reveals the addition of John Hynes, David Quinn, and John Tortorella as assistant coaches, who will work under the direction of head coach Mike Sullivan. In addition to the assistant coaches, Mike Buckley has been named the goalkeeper coach. Mike King and Madison Nikkel will take on roles as video coaches, thus completing the coaching staff for the Olympic tournament.

The men’s ice hockey tournament will begin on February 11, 2026, in Milan, Italy.

We are very fortunate to have a tremendous staff. Everyone is extremely proud to represent our country and focused on our collective effort to bring home a gold medal for the United States.

Bill Guerin, General Manager of the men’s team
Mike Sullivan, who currently serves as the head coach of the New York Rangers, led Team USA in the recent 4 Nations Face-Off, where the American team won the silver medal. Previously, Sullivan was an assistant coach for the U.S. men’s Olympic team in 2006. This time, Sullivan will be supported by Hynes, head coach of the Minnesota Wild; Quinn, assistant with the Rangers; and Tortorella, with vast experience as a head coach in the NHL, including his recent stint with the Philadelphia Flyers. It should be noted that this will be the first time in over a decade that NHL players will participate in the Olympic Games, as the league did not allow its players to participate in the 2018 and 2022 editions.
