Sweden Crowned Junior Ice Hockey World Champion
New York Islanders prospect Viktor Eklund and Casper Juustovaara scored goals in the first period, securing Sweden’s victory over the Czech Republic with a final score of 4-2 on Monday night. This triumph marks the third junior ice hockey world title for Sweden. The match, played in a completely European final, represented a milestone since 2016. Sweden, which had already won in 1981 and 2012, consolidated its lead with a goal by Sascha Boumedienne in the third period. Adam Jiricek and Matej Kubiesa scored for the Czech Republic, a country that had previously won titles in 2000 and 2001. Kubiesa’s goal came in the final seconds of the match.Antron Frodell, selected by the Chicago Blackhawks, expressed his excitement after the victory. Eklund, a first-round pick for the Islanders, is a promising player with a bright future in hockey.
