Mark Stone, Golden Knights captain, out with injury

Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone will be out of action on a weekly basis due to a wrist injury, according to coach Bruce Cassidy. Stone, who plays as a right winger, suffered the injury during the third period of Saturday’s game against Calgary, where the Golden Knights won 6-1. This season, Stone has accumulated 13 points, including two goals and 11 assists, placing him just two points behind his teammate and NHL leader, Jack Eichel, who has 15 points.

I feel so bad for him. The good news is that he has always recovered well. When we have him back, whether short, medium or long term, we still don’t know.

In Stone’s absence, Brandon Saad will take his place on the top line, joining Eichel and Ivan Barbashev, who will move to the right wing. Eight of Stone’s points have been scored on power play plays, where Vegas is positioned in second place in the league. Mitch Marner will replace Stone on the goal line during the power play, while defenseman Shea Theodore will join the main unit. The Knights (4-0-2) are preparing for their most demanding challenge of the season, hosting the undefeated Carolina Hurricanes (5-0-0) at home, with absences in both their offensive lines and defense. Stone joins Brett Howden and Noah Hanifin, who are also out of the game. Howden, affected by a lower-body injury, has already resumed skating, but will not be available for the game against the Hurricanes. Hanifin, for his part, has not returned to the ice since Vegas’s loss to Los Angeles at the start of the season due to an unspecified injury.
