Skinner, ex-Sharks, clears waivers: End of cycle in San Jose

SAN JOSÉ, California – Veteran forward Jeff Skinner has been released from waivers this Tuesday, after the San Jose Sharks made the decision to dispense with his services the day before. The Sharks organization announced that the separation was a mutual decision.

“We want to thank Jeff for his contributions to the organization and wish him the best,” said Mike Grier, general manager of the Sharks.

Skinner, 33, had signed a one-year, $3 million contract with San Jose. During his time with the team, he accumulated six goals and seven assists in 32 games. Throughout his career, Skinner has managed to score at least 30 goals on six occasions. In addition, he was awarded the Calder Trophy in 2011, as the most outstanding rookie in the NHL, while playing for the Carolina Hurricanes. Last season, Skinner participated in the postseason for the first time in his career, playing for the Edmonton Oilers.
