Joe Pavelski Crowned Champion at the American Century Championship

Former NHL player Joe Pavelski won the American Century Championship, held on Sunday at Edgewood Tahoe. Pavelski sealed his victory with an eagle, surpassing John Smoltz, former baseball pitcher, by a difference of nine points in a competition where he led from start to finish. Pavelski achieved a round of 29 points under the modified Stableford scoring system, reaching a total of 73 points. The previous year, Pavelski finished in second place, behind former tennis player Mardy Fish.

I really don’t know what to say. It’s been an incredible week. This place is fantastic. It means a lot to me.

For his outstanding performance, Pavelski took home $150,000 from a total prize of $750,000. Smoltz accumulated 28 points in his final round.

My goal was to put pressure on those at the top, the top three. I tried to move up as many positions as I could.

Country music singer Jake Owen finished in third place with 62 points, after adding 21 points during the day. Taylor Twellman, a former soccer player who shared the lead in the second round with Pavelski, finished in fourth place with 61 points, after obtaining 17 points in the final round. Stephen Curry, NBA star and winner of the 2023 edition, achieved fifth place with 58 points, adding 23 points in his last round. Charles Barkley finished in 69th place in a field of 90 players, with a total of minus 17 points.
