Bruins Bolster Roster with Arvidsson in Strategic Move
The Boston Bruins have finalized the acquisition of winger Viktor Arvidsson, coming from the Edmonton Oilers, in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 draft. This trade represents a key move for the Bruins, who are looking to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season.
Arvidsson, 32, had to waive the no-movement clause in his contract to facilitate the deal. The Bruins will assume his entire salary, which amounts to $4 million.
The Swedish player arrived in Edmonton as one of the big additions in free agency last year, but his performance did not meet expectations. Despite his reputation as a productive scorer and great commitment throughout his 11-year career, he only managed 15 goals in 67 games.
The Bruins, for their part, are looking to add depth to their offense, especially now that Marco Sturm is starting his first season as coach. After a season in which they failed to qualify for the playoffs and focused on selling players at the trade deadline, David Pastrnak was the only forward on the team with at least 60 points.
The Bruins have approximately $9 million in cap space.
This is the second example of teams helping the Oilers reduce their salary cap after reaching two consecutive Stanley Cup Finals. Last week, the Canucks traded Evander Kane for a mid-range pick.
The Oilers captain, Connor McDavid, is eligible for an extension, starting Tuesday. Although he and the Oilers have been in communication, a deal is not believed to be imminent.
