London Knights Win Memorial Cup Title

Philadelphia Flyers prospect Denver Barkey shined with two goals in the second period, leading the London Knights to victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers with a score of 4-1, thus securing their third Memorial Cup title.

Jacob Julien and Easton Cowan also contributed crucial goals, while Austin Elliott stood out in goal with 31 saves, sealing the triumph for the Knights, champions of the Ontario Hockey League.

After a group stage loss to Medicine Hat, the Knights rebounded with a semifinal win against Moncton, setting the stage for a rematch in the final.

The London Knights had already conquered the Memorial Cup in 2005 and 2016.

The Knights, owned by former NHL players Dale and Mark Hunter, along with Basil McRea, had Dale Hunter as president and coach, and Mark Hunter as general manager. Dale Hunter achieved his third title, matching the record of former Kamloops and Vancouver coach, Don Hay.

Gavin McKenna, Medicine Hat star, managed to break Elliott’s streak at the start of the third period. Harrison Meneghin, for his part, made 20 saves for the Tigers, who previously won the Memorial Cup in 1987 and 1988. Julien opened the scoring midway through the first period. Cowan, selected in the first round by Toronto, and Barkey scored within a span of 1:40 at the start of the second, and Barkey extended the lead to 4-0 on a power play with 7:52 remaining in the period.
