Veteran forward Kyle Palmieri has secured his future in the NHL by signing a new two-year contract with the New York Islanders. This news comes as a relief for the Islanders, who ensure the continuity of one of their key players.

The agreement, which has an average annual value of $4.75 million, gives Palmieri stability after a previous four-year, $20 million contract signed in September 2021.

The new contract includes a full no-trade clause in its first year and a modified list of 16 teams to which he cannot be traded for the 2026-27 season.

Palmieri, 34, a native of Long Island, had a productive season with the Islanders, recording 48 points (24 goals and 24 assists) in 82 games. He has proven to be a consistent scorer, surpassing 20 goals in seven of his last ten NHL seasons.

Throughout his career, Palmieri has accumulated 527 points (270 goals and 257 assists) in 900 games, playing for the Islanders, the New Jersey Devils, and the Anaheim Ducks. In the Stanley Cup playoffs, he has added 32 points (18 goals and 14 assists) in 68 games.

In addition to the agreement with Palmieri, the Islanders have also signed defenseman Adam Boqvist to a one-year contract. Boqvist had 14 points in 35 games last season, playing for both the Florida Panthers and the Islanders, who claimed him in January. The Islanders’ preseason has been notable so far. They won the NHL draft lottery for the first time since 2009, securing the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. In addition, the team replaced general manager Lou Lamoriello with Mathieu Darche, an executive from the Tampa Bay Lightning, who now holds the position of general manager and executive vice president of the Islanders. According to reports, the contracts of Palmieri and Boqvist were agreed upon before Darche’s arrival, and the new general manager has honored those agreements.
