Islanders Announce New General Manager
The New York Islanders have selected their new general manager. Sources close to the situation reported that Mathieu Darche, current assistant general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, will take over the position.
Darche, with NHL experience as a player for nine seasons with five different teams, arrives at the Islanders after a successful stint in Tampa Bay.
Since 2019, Darche has been part of the Lightning’s management, contributing to the winning of two Stanley Cups. This position will represent his first experience as general manager.
Darche replaces Lou Lamoriello, who was fired in the offseason after seven years at the helm of the team.
The Islanders failed to qualify for the playoffs this season and haven’t advanced past the first round since the 2020-21 season.
The Isles were favored by luck in the draft lottery, moving up from tenth to the first selection spot. It will be the first time they have the first pick since 2009, when they chose John Tavares.
