Jonathan Drouin Suspended by the NHL

New York Islanders winger Jonathan Drouin has been suspended for one game for an action that occurred during Thursday night’s game. The incident involved a stick to the head of Connor Dewar, a player for the Pittsburgh Penguins, at the end of the game. The NHL’s Player Safety Department announced the suspension on Friday, after reviewing the play in a disciplinary hearing. Drouin, 30 years old, received a major penalty of more than five minutes and was ejected from the game for the action, which occurred after a scuffle with 15 seconds remaining in the match. This is the first suspension in Drouin’s career in the league. He will miss the Islanders’ home opener on Saturday night against Washington. In addition, Drouin will forfeit $20,833 of his salary, money that will go to the Emergency Assistance Fund for Players.
