Jack Hughes Leads Devils to Victory Over Maple Leafs
In an action-packed night, Jack Hughes shone with his third hat-trick in his NHL career, leading the New Jersey Devils to a resounding 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The match, held on Tuesday night, saw the Devils demonstrate their offensive power and defensive solidity, surpassing the Maple Leafs on their own ice.
Cody Glass and Brenden Dillon also contributed to the score for the Devils, while Jake Allen stood out in goal with 23 saves.
Jesper Bratt added three assists to his personal account, consolidating the Devils’ winning streak, who have won five consecutive games after an initial defeat.
For the Maple Leafs, John Tavares and Matias Maccelli managed to score, but it wasn’t enough to counter the Devils’ attack. Anthony Stolarz made 30 saves, although the effort didn’t prevent the defeat.
William Nylander provided two assists for the Maple Leafs, who suffered their second consecutive loss and the fourth in six games.
The game turned dramatic in the second period, when the Devils scored three goals in the first five minutes, leaving the fans present at the Scotiabank Arena stunned.
Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev had to leave the game due to an upper-body injury, following a collision with the Devils’ Dawson Mercer.
Toronto challenged New Jersey’s first goal for goaltender interference, but the initial call stood. The Devils capitalized on the resulting delay of game penalty, and Glass scored the second goal, right after Tanev left the ice.
