Jack Hughes Leads Devils to Victory Over Maple Leafs
In a night full of action in the NHL, Jack Hughes shone with his third hat trick in his career, leading the New Jersey Devils to a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs this Tuesday.
Cody Glass and Brenden Dillon also contributed goals for the Devils, while Jake Allen defended the net with 23 saves. Jesper Bratt stood out with three assists, boosting the Devils’ winning streak to five in a row, following their initial stumble against the Carolina Hurricanes.
For the Maple Leafs, John Tavares and Matias Maccelli managed to score, but Anthony Stolarz, despite his 30 saves, couldn’t prevent the loss. William Nylander added two assists.
The game, played at Scotiabank Arena, saw Toronto take a 1-0 lead in the first period, before the Devils scored three goals in the first five minutes of the second, silencing the home crowd.
In a complicated moment for the Maple Leafs, defenseman Chris Tanev suffered an upper-body injury during a penalty situation in the second period, after a collision with Dawson Mercer of the Devils.
Toronto challenged New Jersey’s first goal for goaltender interference, but the initial call stood. The Devils capitalized on the resulting delay of game penalty, and Glass scored the second goal shortly after Tanev left the ice.
