Cam Ward and Jeffery Simmons: Spark in Titans Training
The Tennessee Titans’ quarterback, Cam Ward, has injected a dose of energy into the team, especially the offense, with his characteristic style and “trash talking.” The situation took a more intense turn when Ward was involved in an altercation with defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons during Monday’s practice. Ward, speaking to the media for the first time on Wednesday, shared his perspective on the incident with a touch of humor and sincerity. The altercation occurred after Ward threw a touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley near the end of practice and began to celebrate. The rookie quarterback stopped his celebration to shove Simmons before performing his iconic “Zombieland” celebration in front of him. Simmons responded with a two-handed shove to Ward’s helmet, causing the offensive line to come to the quarterback’s defense. Ward and Simmons have maintained a constant rivalry, including word exchanges after plays. Simmons had warned Ward that it would be that way when they first met before entering the field for the minicamp.“Jeff is strong as sh… It was fun, and I think it was what we needed. We love to compete, just with Jeff and me, and I’m excited to have that man as my teammate.”

Titans coach Brian Callahan downplayed the incident, considering that it was not necessary to eject any of the players from the practice, especially with three more plays to be played that day. Callahan acknowledged that it is wrong to touch the quarterback, but also added that “if the quarterback voluntarily enters the fray in that way, then it is his responsibility as well”. Simmons, for his part, tried to leave the matter settled when speaking to the media on Tuesday.“I get here, and he’s almost the first one I’m ready to talk sh… He’s the first one that comes to my mind every day in practice”.

“It’s training camp and tempers flare. I have a lot of respect for our offense for defending the quarterback. At the end of the day, we’re a family and we’re past it.”
