Ravens Release C.J. Gardner-Johnson After Brief Stint
The Baltimore Ravens have decided to release safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, just a week after adding him to their practice squad. According to statements from his agent, Kevin Conner, both the Ravens and the player reached a mutual and amicable agreement for this decision. Gardner-Johnson joined the Ravens’ practice squad on October 7th. However, on the same day, the Ravens acquired safety Alohi Gilman via a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers. In Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, Gilman started, making seven tackles, while Gardner-Johnson was not promoted from the practice squad. This is the second time this season that Gardner-Johnson has been released. Previously, the Houston Texans let him go at the end of last month, after only three games. At 27 years old, Gardner-Johnson has accumulated 18 interceptions and 51 passes defended in his seven NFL seasons. Last season, with the Philadelphia Eagles, he achieved six interceptions. The Ravens, with a 1-5 record, are in last place in the league in points allowed per game (32.3) and enter their bye week.“After the Ravens traded for a safety, we were looking for a clearer path to play,” Conner commented.
