Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is scheduled for his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on September 30 in New York. Sue L. Robinson, the former U.S. district judge who acts as the jointly appointed disciplinary officer by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, will preside over Rice’s disciplinary case. Previously, she had only presided over Deshaun Watson’s disciplinary hearing in 2022. It’s likely that Rice could play the first four weeks of the season before any potential suspension is imposed for his involvement in a multiple-vehicle car accident in Dallas during the 2024 offseason. The Chiefs will start the NFL season against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil. Then, they will face the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens. Last month, Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for his involvement in the accident. Rice, 25, pleaded guilty in district court to two third-degree felony counts: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. Rice received a deferred adjudication. The case will be dismissed if he completes probation. The receiver, in his third year, had 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie season in 2023. Last year, Rice suffered a season-ending injury in Week 4 after tearing the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. He had 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns in those four games. Rice fully participated in most of the Chiefs’ training camp practices at Missouri Western State University, reclaiming his role as the team’s number 1 receiver. When the Chiefs face the Chargers in their first game of the season, quarterback Patrick Mahomes is expected to have all of his receivers, including Rice, tight end Travis Kelce, and receivers Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and rookie Jalen Royals.

All I can do is focus on what I can control right now, and that is doing what I do best out here on the field. I learned how valuable any opportunity and moment is. This right here, that we can be on the field and be coached by Coach Andy Reid and have a great quarterback, is honestly a gift, a blessing.

Following his disciplinary hearing with the NFL and the league’s disciplinary process, Rice is still expected to receive a multi-game suspension from the league for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Rice would have to serve his suspension immediately. When suspended, Rice has pledged to stay in shape during his time away from his teammates.

This is my job, and this is what I love to do. Even when I can’t be there with my team, I will keep working as hard as I can to be back with them as soon as possible.
