Uchenna Nwosu Clears the Way for His Return to the Field
Seahawks outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu has passed his physical tests, allowing him to rejoin team practices. Although the exact date of his return to action has not yet been defined, coach Mike Macdonald indicated that it is premature to determine his availability for Week 1. However, preliminary estimates suggest that he will be ready “around the start of the season”. Nwosu, 28, had been on the physically unable to perform list due to a knee surgery performed in the offseason.Nwosu has been one of the Seahawks’ most prominent defenders when healthy, although he has participated in only 12 combined games in the last two seasons due to various injuries, including a pectoral tear in 2023, as well as a medial collateral ligament sprain and a severe quadriceps strain in 2024. Recently, he agreed to a restructuring of his contract, which reduced his compensation for 2025 by almost $7 million. Following the knee surgery, the team has maintained a cautious stance on his return date. This uncertainty has led the Seahawks to consider the addition of a veteran defender, even engaging in discussions with Von Miller before he signed with the Commanders. In addition, running back Kenneth Walker III (foot) and center Olu Oluwatimi (back) returned to practice. Rookie wide receiver Tory Horton did not participate, although coach Macdonald suggests that the ankle injury suffered in the second preseason game is not serious. Macdonald expressed optimism about the availability of linebacker Tyrice Knight for Week 1, who is dealing with a knee injury and another undisclosed medical issue.“It’s exciting because, as far as I know, we’re ahead of schedule, which is great,” Macdonald said. “I know Chenna has been working really hard, which is usual for him, and the training staff had a great plan. The guy has done a great job, so he’ll be back with us. We have a plan to boost him here… heading into the first game, and it will give us the option of possibly putting him on the field early in the season.”

“We are going to get more information in a few days that will give us more clarity on his situation, but I would say I am optimistic,” Macdonald stated.
