Kyler Murray Apologizes for Social Media Post

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray issued an apology on Wednesday for a social media post that generated controversy. The post showed Murray wearing a retro Michael Vick Virginia Tech jersey while posing with one of his two pit bulls. Murray deleted the Instagram post on Tuesday after receiving online criticism. The player expressed his empathy towards those who felt offended by the post. Vick served 21 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in 2007 to operating a dogfighting ring.

“In no way, shape, or form do I condone animal cruelty or dog fighting,” Murray stated during his weekly press conference.

Murray explained that he wore the jersey, which he also wore before Sunday’s victory over the Carolina Panthers, because he admired Vick as a child. Murray has two American Pit Bull Terriers, named Swoosh and Trunks. He posed with Trunks for the Instagram post. “They’re both treated like kings,” Murray said. “So, no way, shape, or form am I approving that. But, yes, I saw how it affected people and decided to take it down. So, I apologize to anyone and everyone I have affected with that.”
