KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs received their rings for winning the 2024 AFC championship on Wednesday, but Travis Kelce made it clear that his focus is on a bigger goal.

I’m only interested in Super Bowl rings.

Kelce expressed his feelings after the second practice of the Chiefs’ minicamp. The tight end emphasized the importance of the AFC championship for the organization and the Hunt family, but made it clear that his main motivation is to conquer the most important title. “Last year wasn’t a success for me and I’m motivated to make sure we get that other ring this year,” added Kelce, 35. Kelce revealed that his preseason training has been different this year. He started earlier, shortly after the defeat in Super Bowl LIX and dedicated more time to his physical preparation. Although he denied reports of a 25-pound loss, he did admit to having lost weight since the end of last season.

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet (but) I’ve lost some weight, yes, since the end of last year’s season.

Kelce explained that this year he had more time to focus on specific aspects of his training, which gives him a positive feeling heading into the next season. Kelce led the Chiefs with 97 receptions last season, although his yardage totals (823) and touchdowns (three) were the lowest of his 11 seasons in the NFL. The player stated that he will not judge his 2025 season based on personal statistics, but on whether the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.

It’s just the way I’m programmed now. Early in my career, I set those goals, (but now) I just go out and try to make every play for my team.

Kelce added that his goal is to be the best possible teammate and leader. He feels responsible for the outcome of the last game and has set out to raise the level of demand even further for next season. Kelce is entering the final season of his contract with the Chiefs. Although he doesn’t know if the 2025 season will be the last of his career, he hinted that, if he continues playing in 2026, he would only do so for the Chiefs.

We’ll try to figure something out for next year. The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can’t see myself playing anywhere else, so we’ll address that later when the time is right. But right now, I’m focused on winning the championship this year.
