Jerry Jones Reveals Details About Contract Negotiation with Micah Parsons
In a recent interview on Michael Irvin’s YouTube channel, Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, shared his perspective on contract negotiations with star player Micah Parsons. Jones stated that the proposed deal for Parsons would have made him the player with the highest salary guarantee, excluding quarterbacks, in the entire NFL.Jones blamed Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, for the deal’s failure to materialize, citing a miscommunication. According to Jones, there have been no further negotiations since then. The Cowboys owner indicated that both he and Parsons had agreed on the length of the contract, as well as the total amount and the guaranteed amount. During the team’s training camp in California, Jones mentioned the possibility of “guaranteeing someone close to $200 million” when discussing Parsons’ contract. In the same interview, Jones expressed that, in his opinion, the agreement was resolved and ready to be finalized, only awaiting details and documentation from the agent. Jones appears willing to have Parsons play this season under the fifth-year option, at a cost of $21.324 million, and consider using the franchise tag in the future. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence that Parsons will be present for the opening game against the Eagles. Jones concluded by pointing out that they still have three years to resolve Parsons’ contractual situation.Nobody appreciates Micah Parsons more than the Cowboys and me. Nobody has offered him more money to play football. Period.
