Jim Harbaugh Reports Recovery After Offseason Surgeries

Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh reported this Tuesday on the success of his recent medical procedures, including a cardiac ablation and a hip replacement surgery, performed during the offseason.

“The doctors find nothing wrong with me,” Harbaugh declared. “A-grade.”

Harbaugh, 61, experienced an episode of atrial flutter, a form of arrhythmia that causes the heart to beat at an abnormally fast rate, during a game against the Denver Broncos in Week 6 of last season. He was attended to by paramedics in the locker room, and his heart eventually regained a normal rhythm. The coach returned to the field in the first quarter and directed the rest of the game. Subsequently, he used a heart rate monitor for two weeks. This was Harbaugh’s third auricular flutter episode, the previous one occurred in 2012, while coaching the San Francisco 49ers. Regarding his hip, Harbaugh previously walked with a significant limp, which seems to have improved after surgery. Harbaugh has expressed in the past that he would not consider retirement due to health issues. “My heart would have to stop beating for me not to be on the sideline,” Harbaugh said in October.
