Jaxson Dart Secures Second Quarterback Spot for the Giants
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York Giants have designated young quarterback Jaxson Dart as their second quarterback, behind Russell Wilson, according to the first unofficial depth chart of the regular season. Dart beats out veteran Jameis Winston, who held the number 2 spot on the unofficial depth chart throughout the preseason, when Dart was third. However, Dart has led most of the practices with the second team during the summer and worked with the second-team offense in the preseason. Despite this, coach Brian Daboll did not reveal who would be his backup quarterback on Sunday, when the Giants kick off their season on the road against the division rival Washington Commanders.Giants players had Tuesday off. Dart, 22, was the 25th pick in this year’s draft from Ole Miss. The Giants traded to get back into the first round and select the young quarterback. This decision seemed to be validated by Dart’s performance this summer. He improved continuously during training camp and had a solid preseason, completing 32 of 47 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions. Dart also ran for a touchdown.Any decision on the roster based on who will be a substitute or who this player will be, we will announce it on Sunday.
