Eagles Bolster Aerial Attack with Dontayvion Wicks Acquisition
The Philadelphia Eagles have strengthened their receiving corps by acquiring Dontayvion Wicks in a trade with the Green Bay Packers.
In the agreement, the Packers received a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft and a sixth-round pick for next year.
Wicks’ agent, David Mulugheta, reported that the Eagles are signing Wicks to a one-year extension for $12.5 million. Philadelphia announced the trade and the one-year extension agreement without revealing the value.
Wicks was entering the last year of his rookie contract, but is now under contract through the 2027 season.
Selected in the fifth round in 2023, Wicks caught 30 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns last season. Both touchdowns occurred in a game against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, his best game of the season, where he achieved six receptions and 94 yards.
The incorporation of Wicks could be key for the Eagles, especially if they decide to trade A.J. Brown.
The Packers still have great depth at the receiver position, in addition to adding a draft pick in each of the next two years.
Despite Romeo Doubs’ departure in free agency and now Wicks, the Packers still have Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Matthew Golden.
The Packers will look to involve Golden more this year after using a first-round pick on a receiver for the first time in over 20 years.
They also signed Skyy Moore in free agency and hope that tight end Tucker Kraft returns from a knee injury and becomes one of quarterback Jordan Love’s primary targets.
With all those receivers returning, it’s likely the Packers wouldn’t have been able to sign Wicks to a contract extension and would have lost him in free agency next offseason.
