ARLINGTON, Texas – After noticing the difficulties in the Dallas Cowboys’ pressure game since Micah Parsons’ trade to the Green Bay Packers, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones announced the addition of veteran Jadeveon Clowney. The agreement is expected to be formalized this Monday. Sources close to the situation indicate that the contract is for one year and could reach $6 million. Clowney, 32, visited the Cowboys last week seeking to join his seventh team since being selected as the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft by the Houston Texans.

“He has been an outstanding player and will add real depth,” Jones stated after Dallas’ 40-37 overtime victory over the Giants. “He’s very reliable and will help us. It’s the kind of thing we’ll keep doing. It’s one of the reasons we manage our roster the way we do, to be able to make these kinds of moves.”

In the season opener, the Cowboys only managed one sack on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (made by Marshawn Kneeland). Although they managed three sacks on Giants quarterback Russell Wilson, he threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns. Parsons has achieved 1.5 sacks in two games with the Packers, a team that acquired the player from the Cowboys in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and first-round picks in 2026 and 2027. In addition, Parsons has made four quarterback pressures. The Cowboys have expressed confidence in their pass rushers, including Kneeland, Dante Fowler Jr., Sam Williams, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and James Houston. Coach Brian Schottenheimer, who was an assistant for the Seattle Seahawks when Clowney played for them, commented last week that the potential addition would strengthen the group. Clowney, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, recorded 5.5 sacks last season with the Carolina Panthers, a team that released him on May 8. In his 11 seasons in the NFL, he has accumulated 58 sacks, 139 quarterback hits, 409 tackles, and 15 forced fumbles.
