Jerry Jones Doesn’t Guarantee Micah Parsons’ Participation in the Season Opener

The owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, is not confident that star defensive player Micah Parsons will be available for the first game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles, scheduled for September 4th.

“No, absolutely not,” Jones declared after Tuesday’s joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams. “A lot of this is their decision. How could I know that?”

Parsons’ trade request, made on Friday, was dismissed by Jones, who considered it part of the negotiations for a multi-year deal. Since then, there has been no direct communication between Jones and Parsons, nor conversations between the team and Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta. When asked about when the urgency to reach an agreement would increase, Jones replied: “I’m on it.” Parsons is under contract for this season, with the option of the fifth year of his rookie deal, and is scheduled to earn $21.324 million. Over the weekend, Jones mentioned Dak Prescott and DeMarcus Lawrence, who played in the final years of their contracts without issues, before signing significant extensions with the Cowboys. Parsons has participated in the daily training, but not in the exercises. During Tuesday’s session, he spoke with former Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth, who has been his mentor over the years. Since his trade request, Parsons has not spoken to the media. In March, Jones believed that he and Parsons had reached an agreement regarding the length of the contract, the guarantees, and the total money, stating that what he offered was “much more than they believe.” Jones also mentioned “guaranteeing someone almost 200 million dollars.” Parsons asked the Cowboys to contact Mulugheta, and the situation has remained stalled since then. Faced with the question of whether Parsons needs to communicate with him, Jones replied: “They are getting what is on the mind or what is being said. This is a good time. It’s the subject. What is, is what is. We will solve it, or we will not solve it.”
