FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to reduce their roster to 53 players, and veteran offensive lineman La’el Collins is among the players who have been informed they will be released, according to sources.Collins joined the Cowboys during training camp due to injuries on the offensive line of Tyler Guyton (knee), Rob Jones (neck), and Saahdiq Charles (knee).Collins played both right and left tackle during the preseason games. From 2015 to 2021, he started 71 games at left guard and right tackle for the Cowboys. He played for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022 before suffering a knee injury at the end of that season. The player attended training camp last year with the Buffalo Bills. Cowboys coaches praised his post-practice work with younger offensive and defensive linemen during camp.Previously on Sunday, the Cowboys activated cornerback Trevon Diggs from the physically unable to perform list.Diggs underwent surgery in January to repair a cartilage problem, but chose to do his rehabilitation in South Florida, which led the Cowboys to enforce a $500,000 reduction clause in his contract. If he started the season on the injured list, he would miss at least the first four games.Diggs said after Friday’s preseason game that he is not sure if he will be able to play in the season opener on September 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles, but he has stepped up his rehabilitation work in recent weeks. The Cowboys have practice on Monday and coach Brian Schottenheimer said the hope is that Diggs will get some field time this week. He mentioned the possibility of a “pitch count” in terms of plays for the opening game if all goes well for Diggs.Teams must reach the 53-player limit on Tuesday.
