Thomas Müller Reveals a Secret About the United States Selection

The renowned German footballer Thomas Müller may have hinted at a surprise regarding the call-up for the United States National Team (USMNT). After scoring his first goal with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 3-2 victory over St. Louis City, Müller revealed that his teammate, Tristan Blackmon, will be called up for the upcoming USMNT friendlies.

“During the international break, we will miss some players. Tristan is nominated for the United States,” Müller stated.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder quickly realized that the list had not yet been officially published. “If he plays well today… Ah, the match has already been played. In the end, it is what it is, I heard what I heard… congratulations to Tristan and congratulations to the United States,” he added. Blackmon, 28, was part of the preliminary list for the Gold Cup, but was not included in the final team. The USMNT will face South Korea on September 6 in Harrison, New Jersey, and then Japan on September 9 in Columbus, Ohio. In May, it was reported that Canada’s national team coach, Jesse Marsch, has also held talks with Blackmon about the possibility of him playing for Canada. Although Blackmon was born and raised in Las Vegas, it has been mentioned that, if he decides to play for Canada, the Canadian Soccer Association is prepared to expedite his Canadian passport application. Blackmon has been a key piece in the Whitecaps’ defense for the last four seasons. In addition, he helped lead the team to the final of this year’s Concacaf Champions Cup and to the current third place in the MLS Western Conference.
